Are we getting the most, both as individuals and as a society,
from our spare time? George Orwell celebrated the British
for being ‘a nation of flower-lovers, stamp-collectors,
pigeon-fanciers, coupon-snippers, darts-players, crossword-puzzle
fans’. Our leisure habits have changed since then, but
are we finding our leisure more rewarding as a result? Presented
by the Turner Prize-winning artist Grayson Perry, this documentary
explores the contemporary landscape of leisure, and makes
some suggestions about how to get the most out of the time
we call our own.
Spare Time was first broadcast on More 4 in Sept 2007
