In 2004 the team
behind Seneca Productions finished a 3 x 1 hour programme on
Status Anxiety. The films travelled around Britain and the
US to plumb the origins of our desire to be a success and our
dread of failure. It featured encounters with self-help gurus,
aspiring chat show hosts, priests, steel workers – and
a group of nudists below the Gatwick flight path who have stopped
worrying about what other people think of them. The programmes
were initially broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK, and received
unanimous praise from TV critics. They have also been broadcast
in countries including Spain, Belgium, Israel and Australia.
